AGG Attorneys Discuss Formation of Civil Rights and False Claims Act Risk & Response Team in Law360 Article
AGG’s introduction of its new Civil Rights and False Claims Act Risk & Response Team was featured in Law360. The team is led by Government Investigations partners Aaron Danzig, Sara Lord, and Gabe Scannapieco, and Employment practice co-chair Ashley Kelly.
“The Civil Rights and False Claims Act Risk & Response Team will prepare clients for possible enforcement actions brought by the Department of Justice as part of the recently announced Civil Rights Fraud Initiative and defend them against such actions,” Sara told Law360 Pulse on Wednesday.
“Because the initiative extends beyond the fraud section to the civil rights division and beyond the DOJ to include other government agencies, we recognized that it could reach our clients across a wide range of areas and industries,” Sara said. “It made sense to review our capabilities in these different areas and to bring them together in a group that could respond quickly and effectively to the challenges that the government’s new policies and enforcement present for government contractors and recipients of government funds.”
“Employers should initiate and conduct reviews of their hiring and employment policies in light of the new directives, and further evaluate these in light of the employment statutes and settled law,” Ashley explained. “While employers who are government contractors or federal grant recipients must proceed with caution with respect to any policies that favor specific protected classes, they can nonetheless implement or continue practices that promote inclusivity and help assure that all employees have opportunities to succeed.
