Matthew V. Wilson is of counsel in the firm’s corporate practice group. Matt works primarily in the areas of entertainment, technology, new media, advertising, promotions and marketing law. Mr. Wilson is the leader of the firm’s Sports and Entertainment Industry Team and his practice involves the representation of clients working in music, film and television, radio, theater, visual arts, publishing, digital media and athletics. He focuses his practice on legal transactional matters, while counseling his clients on business and personal issues related to their careers.

Mr. Wilson is a self-described “music nerd.” As a recovering musician, hopeless fan and dedicated professional, he has over a decade of experience negotiating and drafting agreements for recording artists, songwriters, music publishers, producers, managers, labels, distributors, and concert promoters. Mr. Wilson advises his clients on copyright, licensing and other intellectual property matters and counsels his artist-clients in connection with their career decisions. In addition, Mr. Wilson has extensive experience with all aspects of the festival and live event industry and has assisted his clients with the production of large-scale “happenings” on the domestic and international stage including the Railroad Revival Tour (2011), Shaky Knees/Shaky Boots Festivals (2013-present), Mempho (2017-present), Moon River Festival (2018), One Music Fest (2018-present), among countless others.

Mr. Wilson's film and television experience includes the representation of creative and business focused clients within the motion picture, television and media industries. He counsels major and independent film production companies in connection with business and legal matters related to film projects from start to finish, including financing arrangements, talent negotiations and contractual engagements, production requirements, IP protection and licensing, content clearance, advertising and promotions, and various ancillary activities. In addition, Matt has extensive specialized expertise with respect to Georgia’s dynamic film tax credit universe.

Mr. Wilson’s client roster also includes a wide array of participants in the visual art world, including museums, galleries, fine artists, muralists, photographers, and celebrity tattoo artists. His experience in the visual arena involves advising clients on matters ranging from the basics of contracts, licenses and intellectual property protection, to merchandising and commissioning arrangements, to complex sales, sponsorship, and licensing transactions. Within the publishing and new media space, Mr. Wilson's practice allows him to represent literary publishers, brand influencers, taste-makers and content creators on matters such trademark and intellectual property fair use, licensing, promotional marketing, advertising, sponsorship, advertising and promotional campaigns, sweepstakes, skill contests and other games.

Outside of the entertainment universe, Mr. Wilson practices in the areas of technology, e-commerce and life sciences, which generally includes counseling clients regarding general corporate and commercial issues, web-based commerce and intellectual property matters, content clearance and licensing, electronic advertising, website development, hosting and service agreements, electronic terms-of-use, privacy policies, and data use and protection policies, and legal and regulatory compliance concerning such matters, including trade and industry self-regulation guidelines.
