Recognition and Enforcement of International Arbitration Awards

Overview

AGG represents clients in U.S. federal courts in matters arising from international arbitration proceedings, including:

The recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards under the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (“ICSID”), New York Convention, and Panama Convention.
The recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards involving the U.S. Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (“FSIA”).
Actions to compel, stay, or enjoin arbitration.
Obtaining interim relief during the pendency of international arbitration proceedings.
Obtaining evidence for use in international arbitration proceedings, including experience with 28 U.S.C. § 1782.

Represented the Kingdom of Spain in four separate U.S. federal court proceedings defending against enforcement of ICSID and Stockholm Chamber of Commerce awards totaling more than €268 million.*
Represented a Ukrainian energy supply company in award recognition proceedings against the Republic of Moldova arising from breach of Energy Charter Treaty obligations.*
Successfully represented a Russian company in New York Convention enforcement proceedings in Seattle, obtaining recognition and enforcement of a Moscow-based MKAS award and collecting the resulting judgment.*
