Meicheng Zhu
Of Counsel
Suite 350S
Biography
Meicheng is of counsel in the Intellectual Property and Litigation practices and a member of the Dietary Supplements and Life Sciences industry teams. She advises biotechnology, pharmaceutical, dietary supplement, and medical device companies on protecting and commercializing innovation, with a focus on developing patent strategies that support business growth and market entry.
Meicheng works with clients across the full lifecycle of innovation — from early-stage ideas through patent protection and commercialization. She partners with scientists, founders, and in-house teams to evaluate whether new concepts are patentable, identify the data and experimentation needed to support protection, and develop methods to secure meaningful patent coverage. Her practice includes drafting and prosecuting chemical and life sciences patent applications, managing global patent portfolios, and coordinating with foreign associates on international filings. She also supports intellectual property disputes and patent litigation by providing technical insight that strengthens legal strategy.
She advises emerging companies, growing life sciences businesses, and established organizations on how to protect products entering the market and prevent competitors from copying innovations. Clients turn to Meicheng for guidance on questions such as how to structure patent protection, what steps to take early in development, and how to align intellectual property strategy with commercialization goals.
A key focus of Meicheng’s practice is advising Chinese and multinational pharmaceutical companies seeking U.S. patent protection. As a native Chinese speaker, she works seamlessly with cross-border teams, helping clients navigate differences in legal systems, communication styles, and patent strategy to efficiently secure and manage U.S. intellectual property rights.
Before entering private practice, Meicheng spent about 10 years as a research chemist at a leading global pharmaceutical company, where she designed and synthesized novel organic molecules and contributed to drug discovery across multiple disease areas. Her experience includes work related to small molecules and RNA-based therapeutics, giving her a strong foundation in how innovation develops in real-world research environments. As a co-inventor on 10 patents, she understands firsthand the challenges innovators face and brings a research-informed perspective to her legal advice. Additionally, Meicheng has published articles in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, the Journal of Organic Chemistry, and Suffolk University Law School’s Journal of High Technology Law.
What sets Meicheng apart is her ability to bridge the gap between scientific innovation and legal strategy. She is deeply passionate about helping clients bring new ideas to life and protect the work they have invested in. Having spent years in the lab, she understands how scientists think, how experiments are designed, and what it takes to move an idea forward.
Meicheng takes a collaborative, hands-on approach, working closely with clients to understand their technology and goals, communicating clearly throughout the process, and translating complex concepts into practical, actionable guidance. This allows her to effectively connect with technical teams, business stakeholders, and legal decision-makers alike, ensuring innovations are not only protected, but positioned for success in the marketplace.
