AGG International Dispute Resolution chair Diana Tsutieva will speak at Washington Arbitration Week 2026 on October 27, 2026, in Washington, D.C. Diana will join the panel, “Investment Projects, Arbitration, and the Communities Caught in Between,” from 3-4:15 p.m. EDT.

The panel will examine the challenges that arise when international investment projects affect local and Indigenous communities, particularly when disputes involving mining, infrastructure, and renewable energy projects proceed to investment arbitration. While investment treaties provide protections for investors, affected communities often have limited opportunities to participate in arbitration proceedings.

Diana and fellow panelists will discuss how tribunals address community opposition to investment projects, the potential impact of inadequate community consultation on investor compensation, and whether human rights and environmental counterclaims can provide meaningful accountability for investors. The discussion will also explore how newer investment treaties are incorporating investor obligations, consultation requirements, and benefit-sharing provisions.
