Samantha L. Gargaro
Technology Specialist
Suite 700
Biography
Samantha is a technology specialist supporting the Intellectual Property practice and a member of the Life Sciences industry team. She is focused on intellectual property matters involving life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and organic chemistry. She assists clients with the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and international patent applications, freedom-to-operate and patentability analyses, and intellectual property due diligence. Drawing on her doctoral training in organic chemistry, Samantha brings a strong technical foundation to helping life sciences companies, research institutions, and innovators evaluate, protect, and advance chemistry-based inventions.
Samantha works at the intersection of scientific innovation and patent strategy, helping clients assess both the protectability of new technologies and the intellectual property landscape surrounding their research and commercial objectives. Her experience includes analyzing patent portfolios and scientific developments, supporting domestic and international patent prosecution, and conducting diligence designed to identify intellectual property considerations that may affect research, development, licensing, or other business decisions.
Her technical background spans organic synthesis and catalysis. Samantha earned her Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University, where her research focused on copper-catalyzed asymmetric reductive coupling. She also served as a licensing liaison with the university’s technology transfer office, giving her additional exposure to the process of moving scientific discoveries from academic research toward commercialization. As an undergraduate at Washington State University, she conducted research involving the synthesis of potential inhibitors for Beta-Lactamase C from Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Samantha complements her patent work with an active background in scientific research and communication. She has presented research on copper-catalyzed reductive coupling at U.S. conferences and has authored scientific articles published in the Journal of Organic Chemistry, Israel Journal of Chemistry, Organic Letters, and other publications. Her combination of advanced scientific training, technology-transfer experience, and patent-focused work enables her to approach complex life sciences innovations with close attention to both the underlying science and the intellectual property issues that can impact their development.
