Lanchi Bombalier Discusses Hospice and Home Health Medicare Enrollment Moratoria in Hospice News
Lanchi Bombalier, AGG Healthcare partner, was quoted in Hospice News addressing federal Medicare enrollment moratoria affecting hospice and home health providers.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (“CMS”) implemented six-month national moratoria restricting new Medicare enrollments and certain changes in majority ownership. The temporary restrictions, scheduled to expire November 13, 2026, have complicated transactions, new locations, and business expansion plans.
Lanchi noted that, on the transaction front, the moratoria have created a lot of uncertainty, which can lead to market disruption.
“The moratoria [have] left a lot of uncertainty when it comes to transactions. There were a lot of providers that were committed to transactions but had not hit their filing deadline date, and obviously that very much delayed that process,” Lanchi said. “It certainly does chill the industry a little bit.”
She suggested that the market should normalize and certainty will return, however, providers in some regions could face further hurdles. Lanchi also proposed that state governments may also establish their own moratoria.
“People would start trying to resume plans and resume growth, but certainly I think it’s going to be at a lower rate, because there’s certainly some state considerations now,” she said. “It’ll take a little bit of time for folks to get their footing to figure out what’s the next step.”
