Jason Bring Explains How Ultramarathons Help Him as a Healthcare Litigator in The Litigation Daily
AGG Healthcare Litigation chair Jason Bring was featured in a profile by The American Lawyer Litigation Daily highlighting how ultramarathon running has made him a better lawyer.
Jason explained that race training has allowed him to focus and think deeper about clients’ legal problems. He also noted that the feeling of “powering through” a run translates to his practice.
“You can do more than you think you can. You’re tougher than you think you are,” he said. “And it’s not just toughness, but also a mental acuity that comes to bear — being able to clear your mind and be focused.”
Both running and the law are team sports, Jason said. He described himself as a “concierge” in his legal practice. If he cannot give clients the help they need himself, he can help them plug into others who can. Jason mentioned that when he’s running ultramarathons, his wife and friends are his team at aid stations.
He highlighted his personal mantra: Do what you hate.
“We all tend to put off the things that we don’t like to do,” Jason said. “ . . . I’ve just found if you flip that paradigm on its head and do the things that you don’t like as much first, you actually become a lot better as a person, and you get a lot more done.”
