Ed Marshall to Present APP Webinar on FTC Enforcement and the “Merchant of Record” Model

AGG Payment & Systems & Fintech industry team co-chair Ed Marshall will present the Association of Payment Professionals’ (“APP”) upcoming webinar, “Instant Reaction to Recent FTC Enforcement Action: Paddle.com and the “Merchant of Record” Model,” on August 6, 2025, from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. PDT.

Hosted as a bonus installment of APP’s Monthly Education Webinar Series, the program will offer a timely discussion on the Federal Trade Commission’s (“FTC”) recent enforcement action against Paddle.com.

The FTC alleges that Paddle.com improperly acted as a “merchant of record” or software “reseller,” using this structure to process payments for unrelated third-party merchants engaged in computer repair scams.

Ed will examine these allegations and discuss the implications and takeaways of the FTC’s criticisms, including the “merchant of record” model.
