Arnall Golden Gregory Partner to Be Honored for Commitment and Contributions to the Aging

Alan C. Horowitz to Receive Grace Harrison Award

ATLANTA (December 02, 2021) – Arnall Golden Gregory partner Alan C. Horowitz will be presented with the Grace Harrison Award from the Eastern Pennsylvania Geriatrics Society (EPGS) for his contributions to the field of aging. The Grace Harrison Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of those living in long-term care facilities. The EPGS is honoring Alan for his pioneering work related to the regulatory and legal aspects of the care and oversight provided to older adults in residential settings. Alan will receive the prestigious honor at the Union League in Philadelphia on December 6, 2021.

Alan is a member of the firm’s Healthcare practice and the Post-Acute & Long-Term Care industry team. Based in Atlanta, he is recognized as an innovative healthcare attorney known for his unique and significant healthcare experience. Alan held clinical, faculty, and management positions at major medical centers where he utilized his management skills, as well as his background as a registered respiratory therapist and registered nurse before launching his legal career. His work dates back decades. In 1976, Alan formed the first neonatal respiratory care team while at Hahnemann University Medical Center in Philadelphia. He is focused on helping clients manage businesses that provide the highest level of client care possible.

During his illustrious career, Alan has served as assistant regional counsel at the United States Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office of the General Counsel (OGC). He worked closely with, and litigated cases on behalf of, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Alan also worked with the U.S. Attorneys’ Office defending Medicare coverage determinations and Federal Tort Claims Act cases. Currently, Alan negotiates and litigates significant cases against CMS.

Alan has also served as the acting director of ECRI Institute’s National Center for Independent Medical Review and served as the director of clinical and legal affairs for the Institute for Safe Medication Practices.

Alan speaks frequently on health law and has written dozens of articles on the topic. He co-authored and co-edited the American Health Law Association publication, Post-Acute Care Handbook: Regulatory, Risk and Compliance Issues.
