AGG Healthcare of counsel Tom Kelly presented “Parity in Practice: Protecting Access to SUD Treatment” at the Addiction Professionals of North Carolina (“APNC”) Fall Conference on October 19, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina.

During his presentation, Tom addressed mental health and substance use disorder (“SUD”) parity requirements and how commercial health plan practices involving coverage, prior authorization, medical necessity, reimbursement, and utilization management can affect access to treatment.

Tom outlined a provider-focused approach to identifying potential parity concerns, obtaining information to evaluate payor decisions, and preserving documentation. He also discussed how to determine when appeals, payor engagement, or additional action may be appropriate.
