Michael Burke provides practical and actionable legal and compliance guidance that allows companies to focus on business growth. He helps companies minimize risk and maximize return across a wide range of domestic and cross-border corporate and commercial transactions and regulatory issues. Mike is a partner in the Corporate Practice and co-chairs Arnall Golden Gregory’s Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Industry Team.

He advises on business formation issues; structuring and execution of mergers and acquisitions; raising venture capital; building and operation of joint ventures and strategic alliances; creating distribution and reseller networks; licensing intellectual property; and establishing quality and pharmacovigilance agreements. Mike also counsels clients on compliance with the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, U.S. export controls and economic sanctions programs, and U.S. antiboycott regulations. He represents companies in investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Foreign Assets Control (U.S. Department of the Treasury), Department of Defense Trade Controls (U.S. Department of State), and the Bureau of Industry and Security (U.S. Department of Commerce).

Mike possesses vast experience with cross-border transaction in more than 50 international jurisdictions. He has counseled dozens of businesses from Ireland and Northern Ireland to successfully enter the U.S. market. In addition, he authors the Irish Export Insights blog, https://irishexportinsights.com/, a resource for Irish and Northern Irish businesses expanding to the U.S. market.

He has expertise in China-related investments, acquisitions, and technology ventures. He is a co-editor and co-author of The Corporate Counsel’s Guide to Doing Business in China, published by Thomson Reuters.

Mike co-chairs the American Bar Association-United Nations Development Programme International Legal Resource Center and is the immediate past chair of the American Bar Association’s Section Officer’s Conference. He also serves on the Advisory Council to the American Bar Association’s Law Student Division. Mike is past chair of the American Bar Association Section of International Law, and was the youngest person elected chair of that Section. He serves as a liaison between the American Bar Association Section of International Law and each of the Law Society of Ireland, the General Council of the Bar of Ireland, the Law Society of Northern Ireland, and the Bar of Northern Ireland, and is a former United States Country Councilor for LAWASIA.
