Kelly is of counsel in the firm’s Real Estate practice and a member of the Retail industry team.
Kelly’s practice focuses on commercial real estate development and retail leasing. She works with a variety of clients, including established national retail brands and shopping center owners (private investors, institutional investors, and REITs) and their asset managers in the acquisition, disposition, development, asset management, leasing, and financing of commercial property. Her practice often involves working on mixed-use projects in which retail is a major component of the transaction. Kelly draws from her varied and extensive legal experiences – in both private practice and several in-house counsel roles – ranging from raw land acquisitions, development matters, multi-family, office and industrial acquisitions and dispositions, and real estate finance, to day-to-day contract drafting, review, and negotiation for commercial real estate matters. She also has experience performing similar drafting, review, and negotiation services in prior in-house roles related to commercial and corporate master services agreements and statements of work for her former business-colleagues.
Clients appreciate Kelly’s relationship-oriented style as she develops a deep understanding of their business. She can easily pivot between working with asset managers, property managers, owners, and developers directly themselves to working with clients that govern and direct legal work through their in-house legal teams. With years of experience in both private practice and as a former in-house attorney in several organizations, she prides herself on her ability to comprehend the challenges and the needs of both business-oriented clients and their in-house counsel to achieve company goals and objectives.
In addition to retail, Kelly has experience working with other clients including healthcare providers, residential home builders, financial institutions, and investment management companies. She has also worked with the largest nonprofit healthcare system in Georgia on a number of transactions involving hospitals, medical office buildings, and acquisitions of both fully developed projects and raw land to be developed for further expansion.
Kelly is engaged in several industry and community associations and organizations and contributes annually to the facilitation and moderation of International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Law Conference roundtable discussions. She is an active member of CREW Atlanta and the chapter’s 2022 Leadership CREW Class (a competitively selected, year-long leadership development program). Kelly also currently serves as a board member of the Pennsylvania State University Alumni Association’s Atlanta Chapter in the role of Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. She has previously served as a board member of her residential homeowners association.
