OIG Alert Cautions Physicians Who Reassign Their Medicare Patients

Recently, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General (OIG) published an alert that cautions physicians against the risks inherent in reassignment of their rights to receive Medicare payment for the services or items they furnish to Medicare beneficiaries (the OIG alert). The OIG alert states that physicians who reassign their Medicare payments by executing Form CMS-855R may be liable for false claims submitted by the entities to which they reassigned their payments.
