Privacy Attorney Robert Belair discusses Wyndham’s Battle with the FTC

In the lead story in the December issue of Privacy Laws & Business International Report, Robert Belair analyzed the Wyndham hotel group’s surprising battle with the FTC over a series of data breaches that may have compromised the personal information of Wyndham’s customers. They wrote that in this unprecedented litigation “Nothing short of the FTC’s ability to continue in its role as a de facto privacy agency is at stake.” Wyndham not only disputes specific allegations but challenges the FTC’s authority under Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act to regulate data security standards.
