Glenn Hendrix Featured in ABA Journal

AGG Partner Glenn P. Hendrix is featured in an article titled “Bringing Mediation to Pakistan,” which appears in the October 1, 2011, edition of the ABA Journal. The article discusses how a branch of the World Bank called the International Finance Corp. (IFC) is promoting alternative dispute resolution in Pakistan to solve the problem of courts over-crowded with unnecessary suits and risk-averse businesses. Mr. Hendrix says that approximately 90 percent of Pakistani commercial cases go to trial, leaving an estimated court backlog of a staggering 1.5 billion cases. He has been traveling to Karachi to help train Pakistani lawyers in mediation. The article states that “since 2007 the [IFC-founded] Karachi Centre for Dispute Resolution has resolved 1,053 disputes through mediation out of a total of 1,522 cases referred to it, involving $23.4 million in claims as valued based on the payouts following settlement, according to data from May.”
