Construction has begun on the rooftop of a shopping center in Gainesville, Florida, to add approximately 1,500 solar panels. The new solar farm, measuring 46,000 square feet, ranks in the top five largest rooftop solar systems in Florida and is one of the largest to use the regional utility’s feed-in tariff renewable energy program. The 350-kW system will begin generating electricity by the close of the first quarter of 2011. AGG associate Brian R. Smith advised Stafford Properties on the deal. Stafford Properties, of Atlanta, owns the fully leased 88,000 square-foot Publix-anchored shopping center.
