Arnall Golden Gregory Celebrates Diversity with "On Being Black" Exhibit

Arnall Golden Gregory LLP and Arnika Dawkins Gallery held an opening reception at the law firm on February 4, 2016 for the photography exhibit “On Being Black,” where AGG gave a diversity award to the Development Authority of Fulton County, a client.

“On Being Black” is a visual dialog of race in America as told through photographs taken by artists ranging in age from 22 to 80.

Each year, AGG’s Diversity and Art Committees partner with a gallery to exhibit artwork at the firm that celebrates Black History Month.

“It is our way of honoring diversity both within and outside the firm,” said Anuj Desai, a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice, in his welcoming remarks. “We want to encourage conversation about the subject of what it means to be a minority – whether in a firm, in a company, in a city, or in this country.”

Mr. Desai and Mindy Planer, a partner in the Real Estate Practice, chair AGG’s Diversity Committee. They, along with Frank White, a partner in the Bankruptcy, Creditors’ Rights and Financial Restructuring Practice who serves on the Art Committee, helped organize the event.

Marian Dockery, executive director of the Georgia Diversity Program of the State Bar of Georgia, presented AGG’s Commitment to Diversity Award to Robert Shaw, chairman of the Development Authority of Fulton County.

“We must distinguish those who talk the talk from those who walk the walk,” Ms. Dockery said in presenting the award. “The Development Authority of Fulton County has conspicuously embraced diversity over the years in its engagement of minority professionals, including accountants, consultants and attorneys, and minority employees, and has encouraged the use of minority contract workers and vendors.”

The AGG attorneys who represent the Development Authority of Fulton County – Lewis Horne, Sandra Zayac and Shelby Gutierrez – are of African-American and Latino descent.

Upon receiving the award, Mr. Shaw, standing with his staff and attorneys, told the crowd, “We are a family, and that’s the way we get things done.”
