AGG Partner Alan Minsk, Chair of the Food and Drug Practice Team, was featured in the November 16th issue of The Gray Sheet, a publication focused on medical devices, diagnostics and instrumentation from Elsevier Business Intelligence. The piece entitled, “Special Medical Liaisons Are No Back Door to Off-Label Promotion – Experts,” explores how specialized medical liaisons can help companies navigate scientific discussions on off-label product applications, but are not immune to government enforcement efforts. Medical science liaisons are field-based scientists employed by device, drug and biotech companies to provide scientific information to the health care community. Mr. Minsk noted that government investigators have brought suit against medical science liaisons when they overstep their bounds. “It’s very useful for companies to create medical science liaison groups separate from the field sales force,” he said, but they must “be careful not to make them de facto sales reps.” To read the article in its entirety, please click here.
