On October 4, 2010, AGG co-sponsored an event held at the Egyptian Ballroom of the Fox Theatre in Atlanta celebrating 20 years of German unity. The event hosted 500 guests from the German-American community, among them distinguished guests from the US and local government, members of the Atlanta Consular Corps, active and retried members of the German US armed forces, and visitors from Charleston, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Birmingham, Greenville and Columbus. Consul General Lutz Görgens welcomed several special guests, including Margot Käßmann, former president of the Protestant Church in Germany and currently a visiting professor at Emory University; and Greg Frady, Georgia State head baseball coach and the coach of the German National Baseball Team, which recently placed third at the European Championship. Coach Frady was also named the 2010 European Baseball Coach of the Year. One of the highlights of the evening was the keynote speech by US Congressman John Lewis, who underlined the importance of the continued alliance of the US with Germany.
