Dennis Hastert Inks Deal for Book Chronicling Rise to House Speaker, Reflections on Major Political Events

ATLANTA, July 31, 2003 - Arnall Golden Gregory LLP attorney Randy Evans represented Dennis Hastert in negotiations with Regnery Publishing Inc., which announced today it will publish a book on Hastert's rise to speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The book, to be published in 2004, is a reflection of Hastert's experiences and thoughts on events such as Speaker Newt Gingrich's resignation, the 2000 presidential election, the Sept. 11 tragedy and the war on terrorism.

"Speaker Hastert has had a unique vantage point through some of the country's most historical events, and has become one of the most influential political figures in America," Evans said. "Yet no one has heard his story."

Marji Ross, president and publisher of Regnery, said Hastert's life and stories provide unique insights into some of the most well-known political figures of contemporary American politics.

"His rise to power, and his success as speaker, provide the framework for lessons in leadership that are invaluable," Ross said. "Speaker Hastert's book will be candid, entertaining and enlightening. Regnery Publishing is excited to be working as his publisher."

Evans said Regnery acquired world publishing rights to the book - including pre- and post-publication serial rights, English language and translation rights, and audio and electronic rights. The U.S. House's Committee on Standards of Official Conduct has approved the contract for the book. Terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.
