Douglas Chalmers Jr. Joins Arnall Golden Gregory
Litigation, Public Affairs Practice Areas

ATLANTA, Feb. 24, 2003 - Atlanta law firm Arnall Golden Gregory LLP announced today that Douglas Chalmers Jr. has joined the firm, adding expertise to two of its most rapidly growing practice areas: litigation and public affairs.

Chalmers comes to AGG from private practice, bringing significant experience in commercial and appellate litigation. His experience includes defending a number of Fortune 500 and other companies in consumer fraud, securities fraud and RICO class actions. He also has advised privately held companies in matters of corporate governance, directors and officers' fiduciary duties, and contract law.
Chalmers gives AGG added depth in the ethics and election law aspects of public affairs, a rapidly growing area of the firm that represents high-profile political figures and organizations on both sides of the aisle at all levels of government, from the White House to City Hall.

As part of AGG's expanding public-affairs practice, Chalmers joins a seasoned team of attorneys that includes Randy Evans - general counsel to House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, House Majority Whip Roy Blunt, former U.S. Rep. J.C. Watts, former Speaker Newt Gingrich and the Georgia Republican Party - and Marva Brooks, who headed the legal team of Mayor Shirley Franklin's campaign and served as city attorney and chief administrative officer in former mayor Andrew Young's administration.

"Doug is a proven attorney who will hit the ground running and have an immediate, positive impact on our litigation team," said AGG Managing Partner Bill Kitchens. "He's also a thoughtful leader on matters of public policy, and therefore an excellent fit to work with our expanding and influential public-affairs practice."

During the 2002 campaign, Chalmers served as legal counsel to Gov. Sonny Perdue's campaign. He also represents the campaigns of a number of members of the General Assembly, including Sen. Bill Stephens, the governor's floor leader. He previously served as deputy election counsel to the Georgia Republican Party, and as general counsel to the Gwinnett County Republican Party.

Chalmers, a member of the Board of Advisors for the Georgia Public Policy Foundation, recently authored "The Ethics in Government Act: Problem Areas and Suggested Improvements," available at www.gppf.org/pubs/analyses/2003/ethics.htm.

Chalmers received his law degree from the Duke University School of Law, where he was a member of both the Editorial Board of the Duke Law Journal and the Moot Court Board. He served as a law clerk for Judge Diarmuid O'Scannlain of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Arnall Golden Gregory provides innovative legal counsel to entrepreneurial and growing businesses. With more than 135 attorneys in Atlanta and Macon, Ga., the firm offers a wide range of services and takes pride in building lasting relationships with its clients, a diverse business and industry group with local, national and international interests.
