Media groups are often challenged on their rights to gather and to publish the news. The Arnall Golden Gregory First Amendment and Media Law Practice Group focuses on the legal issues faced by the media, such as print and broadcast news organizations, journalists, networks and trade associations, and their representatives. Our services in this area include:

• Defense of claims for defamation, invasion of privacy and related torts
  
• Assertion of rights of access to public meetings and records, as well as access to judicial proceedings and records
  
• Defending media organizations that are subpoenaed for testimony and/or production of newsgathering records
  
• Providing pre-publication or pre-broadcast review and counseling

Notable recent cases

• Represented the Chicago Tribune and Los Angeles Times in seeking to open sealed court records of a settled Firestone tire accident wrongful death case.
  
• Represented Fox News Network in defending an invasion of privacy case involving the use of hidden cameras.
• Represented The Macon Telegraph in nationally reported litigation seeking access to DNA to test for guilt or innocence of executed rape-murder convict.
  
• Represented Emmis Corporation, publisher of Atlanta Magazine, in another invasion of privacy case.

AGG attorneys have provided volunteer services to trade associations such as the Atlanta Press Club, the Georgia Press Association and the Georgia First Amendment Foundation. We also participate in Georgia State Bar and American Bar Association media committees and publish articles in media law publications.
